About
Hartenbosch Village sits on the old farm of Esaias Meyer in Hartenbos, near Mossel Bay in the Western Cape. The farm dates back to 1733, when Meyer acquired the land from the Dutch East India Company. In 1734 a spice vessel lost her rudder near the farm, and Meyer helped the crew with food, water and care for the sick. In 1933 the farm was sold to the South African Railways and Harbours, and in 1936 the ATKV bought most of it and divided it into 670 lots. The village is being developed as a centre for family entertainment, recreation and festivity, with a salt and copper landmark and open spaces for all ages.
