About
Loskop Besproeiingsraad is an irrigation board serving farmers near Groblersdal. It runs a scheme fed from a dam on the Olifants River, and its canal network totals about 495 km, with two main canals of 96 km on the left bank and 60 km on the right bank. At peak times the left-bank main canal can deliver up to 33,000 cubic metres of water an hour. Cemented and earth drains spread across the scheme help limit water losses. A full water quota gives each hectare 7,700 cubic metres. The board took over the scheme on 1 April 1992, with four members appointed by the Minister of Water Affairs and four elected by the scheme members.
