About
Shintsha Health Initiative, known as SHINE, began as a group of HIV-positive patients in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, who wanted to fight HIV stigma and encourage people to keep up their treatment. It is registered as a non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development under the NPO Act, and holds public benefit organisation status with section 18A. A board of directors governs the organisation under its constitution, with members serving three-year terms. SHINE works in the King Cetshwayo District, giving direct support to Eshowe and to Mbongolwane Hospital in partnership with Doctors Without Borders.
